I agree that relegion and logic can not go together. We believe in
relegion, without questioning (Can a man have an elephant's head
(Ganesha)? Can any one have 4 hands (Vishnu)? Can any one be born
from the union of 2 males (Ayyappa) ? Can a virgin give birth to
a child (Jesus)? and so on. Faith is the most important factor
here.
In the north, any one can go and keep flowers at the feet of the
marble diety. In the south (particularly Kerala) no one but the
particular "meshanti" or the designated poojari can even enter the
"garbha griham". Why can't any body else enter, when the
constitution gives every citizen a right to equality ? Such
questions are meaningless and any amount of argument can take
place till the world ends and there will be arguments for both -
for and against!
I am sure that any body who has faith in Ayyappa, will also have
faith in the rituals and customs. They will not go, even if
allowed. For those who have no faith, I doubt if they would like
to go there as the journey to Sabarimala is not a "picnic", where
one goes to while away their time.
So, I think that in the typical Malayali way, where we are experts
in creating controversies where none is needed - like Idea Star
Singers, Reliance fresh etc., a new controversy is taking birth,
because unfortunately we Malayalis have lots of time on our hands
for useless issues.
May Lord Ayyappan give "sadbuddhi" to all of us!!
