[Keralites] Jet Airways starts Doha flights on January 5

Jet Airways has confirmed that it would roll out its Doha
operations on January 5, with 14 flights a week.
Shakir Kantawala, the airline's sales and marketing regional manager
for the Gulf, Middle East and North Africa, told Gulf Times from
Dubai yesterday that there would be daily services from Doha to
Mumbai and Kozhikode in Kerala.
"Both the services would be non-stop, exclusively for Doha
passengers," he said in an interview by telephone.
Fourteen-year-old Jet Airways will be India's first private airline
to start services to the Gulf. It will also launch direct daily
flights to Kuwait and Bahrain on January 5.
Kantawala said that the airline would initially launch two daily
direct flights on the Kochi-Kuwait-Kochi and Kochi-Bahrain-Kochi
sectors.
The airline will also operate daily direct flights on the Mumbai-
Bahrain-Mumbai and Delhi-Kuwait-Delhi sectors.
Its Muscat services, to Kozhikode and Kochi, might also start on the
same day, if not "definitely in the first week", Kantawala said.
The airline would introduce "its world-class service on the Boeing
737-800 aircraft on these sectors, offering the highest quality of
comfort, courtesy, reliability and standards of in-flight as well as
ground operations, for which it had been highly acclaimed", the
official said.
"Jet Airways is proud to be the first Indian private sector carrier
to fly to the Gulf. With a large number of Indians living and
working in the Gulf, flights to these sectors consistently register
high load factors."
Operations to the United Arab Emirates are still under consideration
and the Indian Civil Aviation would make the decision soon, he added.
However, if passengers are expecting a lower fare, they are likely
to be disappointed. Kantawala would only say "it will be very
competitive." But, he added, "it will neither be too expensive nor
too low."
He pointed out that the product is good and hence the fare would be
comparable with Qatar Airways'.
"It will be within a range – with a low season and high season fare.
We will offer what the market requires," he said, indicating clearly
that the current fares in the market will remain unchanged.
Kantawala said the Mumbai flight would leave Doha "early in the
morning" to arrive there by 4am so that passengers could catch any
domestic flight for their onward journey.
At the same time, the Kozhikode service would depart Doha "in the
evening so that people can reach home for dinner".
The exact timings and fares are expected to be loaded onto the
system today, said Oommen M Kurien, Jet Airway's GSA manager in Doha.
Kantawala said that the airline would be carrying passengers from
Doha not just to Mumbai and Kozhikode but to the entire country.
In addition to these two airports, it flies to 43 cities in India
and to 10 international destinations.
"We are truly a global airline. Our destinations include Singapore,
Bangkok, Kuala Lumpur, London, Brussels, New York, Newark and
Toronto, in addition to the Gulf points."
Asked about more frequencies and other destinations from Doha, the
official said "everything is subject to government approval" and
market requirements. "This is just the beginning."
The airline will have a "full team, including a front office and
country manager" in Doha to oversee the operations within a month.
Jet Airways is represented in Doha by Cleopatra Travels.
