od is Auditing all our Accounts?
| |||
My Fondest, most meaningful memories go back to Kerala when I was a little kid. It is here that I was introduced to God, to solidarity and kindness. Amongest the first things I learnt was the "Gayatri Mantra" which has been inextricably woven into my system.
My fear of and love for God was imbibed from my mother who taught that God was omnipotent, omnipresent and omniscient; watching over all that we do; He rewarded good behaviour and punished a wrong. God often rewarded me with prizes on my pillow: a two paisa coin, chocolate or toffee, depending on how good I'd been. With innocent joy I used to inform my mother. She would pretend complete ignorance and say that God must have come personally or sent the prize through a messenger. Litle did I know that it was she who was God's messenger and quietly teaching me a value system I thought God looked like Ganesha.
I actually used to talk to God, play with him, exchange toys and letters. I remember sitting on our verandah amidst heavy, deafening rain (our house had "'Naluketu'"), making little paper toys and writing letters to God and actually sending them to Him all courtesy my mother. I even got replies to my letters and return gifts through the same messenger. It took me a long time to realize the truth. However, I continue to converse and communicate with God; I seek His guidance and at times even argue with Him. In fact he is my greatest confidante. When I'm low or depressed, I first surrender to Him and he sails me through all situations. Perhaps it was always so, but today I feel the world is different and cruel place. Exceptions apart, there seems to be no fear of God, no compassion for fellow beings or other creatures. The unborn are not spared, nor the dead.
Is God is auditing all our Accounts? I can't help believing so.
