Tennis Sensation 2007 was a great year for tennis sensation Sania Mirza. She reached a final, three semis and three quarters in singles. She upped her singles world ranking to 27 and was even crowned Asia's No. 1 tennis star. Controversies Galore However, the year did not come without its fair share of controversies. Mirza tendered an apology last month after a police complaint for trespassing at the Mecca Masjid in Hyderabad after she filmed an advertisement on its premises Disrespecting The Tricolour Soon after,a petition was filed against her in a local court. The petition said that she has disrespected the Tricolour by putting her bare feet towards the flag during a function whose reports were carried in newspapers. Hemming, Hawing Over Skirt She has faced an edict in the past from a Muslim group after her tennis attire was termed un-Islamic. She was chastised by Muslim groups in India for wearing a sleeveless top and a mini-skirt during her matches.
